A computer processor is a brain of a

When your computer runs
out of physical memory it uses space on the hard disk to store the information it would send to ram if
there was more available. The transfer rates between physical ram and hard disk
are different - hard disk being significantly slower. this is the reason your
machine runs slowly when there is not enough ram for the applications it is
running.
You will find a nice speed increase with the upgrade you are talking about. Windows will load faster and applications will start more quickly. Your operating system will be generally more responsive
